For us, the decision to phase into Sandhill Farms bulls 4 years ago was easy. You cant't beat the opportunity to add nationally recognized genetics to your herd. We require low maintenance, easy calving, and efficient growth. We breed several hundered cows in the fall and spring and market the calves and/or yearlings locally. In addition, we breed several hundred heifers to keep or sell private treaty to local producers.
This past fall at weaning, we had the heaviest calves ever due to SHF genetics. Whether your selling to your neighbors, or retaining your stock, you've got to have consistent quality. We run black and red angus females crossed with these polled herefords. The extra growth in this cross is the only free lunch in the industry.
