I tend to judge the progression of an operation by studying the cattle that are in the bottom tier of their program. Any ranch or farm can eventually make a great one - sometimes by design, sometimes by accident. However, to make widespread improvement within a herd is always the goal. To stay in business you have to market a volume of bulls that appeal to commercial buyers, not just one or two lead off bulls. As hard as it is to imagine, every year I stop by Sandhill the quality gets deeper. I'm privileged to study a lot of cattle on a number of purebred programs every year. I would put the lineup the Schultz family has put together against any operation I've had the privilege to visit. There were numerous elite bulls that could push purebred operations forward, but what struck me more was the number of stout, rugged, durable bulls that would work in many diverse commercial operations.

"Using Sandhill Farms bulls at our ranch has helped us reach our goals of producing trouble free baldie steers, and replacement heifers. The calving ease has been good and the demand for our black baldie replacement females is netting us premium dollars."

Banks Polled Herefords, Hamilton, OH

"It is always exciting to see the results of a breeding program based on documented performance, practical selection criteria, common sense, and hard work. Your group of bulls and heifer calves show the soundness of the generation that preceded them. One only has to look at the group of cows nursing the heifer calves to appreciate the future potential of these calves."

Jake and Tamara Heim (and little Jack) Logan, IA

We bred a portion of our heifers to Progress and Treasure last year and they calved and weaned the same percentages as our Angus bred ones. The baldy heifers will be in the replacement pen and their steer mates are soggy, easy feeding, top end steers. I fully expect my baldies to out sell straight blacks.

Two main reasons we purchased your genetics for the Hereford side of our program is your bulls have balanced EPD’s that compete with or excel Angus sires and your repeated Denver pen success (you don’t just have one outstanding individual).

"The bulls we've purchased from you are working out well in our operation." Henry Burmeister

The bulls we've purchased from you are working out well in our operation. Good disposition is so important to us. The calf crop is thrifty, vigorous and compare well with the A.I. calves. We get along well buying stock at your ranch with the large number to select from, and the data sheet to indicate the bull's potential. Hope you can continue offering cattle that way.

"He has proven that he is the most complete beef breeding bull I have ever used" Dayler

Just wanted to let you know how Sandhill Farms bull turned out. His calves have very good performance plus exceptional natural fleshing ability on little grain. After calving his first daughters, he has proven that he is the most complete beef breeding bull I have ever used, either in breeding natural or through A.I. The quality of his daughters' milk flow, udder and teats are what more Polled Herefords need.

"The calves perform well and have topped the market" Marlin Butler

I have been using Sandhill Farms' bulls since 1995 and have found them to be an excellent cross with my Angus-Black Simmental cows. The calves perform well and have topped the market at the Pratt Livestock, Inc., auction. The bulls are easy calving and have an excellent disposition.

"We couldn't be happier! " Ted Kriese

With the 2nd calf crop from our Sandhill Farms bull ready to hit the ground, we couldn't be happer! The calves have all been born unassisted, and we are pleased with the calves' vigor at birth. Weaning weights for this contemporary group are above our herd average, despite one of the driest summers on record. The cattle have a lot of extension, thickness and spring of rib. These cattle are deep through the flank, well muscled and very correct, and all possess an excellent hip shape as well as smooth, laid-in shoulders. Ted has been raising purebred Polled Herefords for more than four decades and firmly believes that the G01 calves are the most uniform group of calves ever born on the farm. Upon hauling some feeder steers to the feedlot this fall, the owner took one look at the steers and said, "Man are they thick! Do you have any more?"" Upon leaving the feedlot

"Sandhill farms has definitely helped us reach our goals! " Ryan Staerkel

We have been using bulls from Sandhill Farms for the past five years in order to reach our production goals. Our main goal is to retain ownership all the way through the feedyard, to capture increased profit. In order to maximize production as well as profitability we decided to utilize a three-way cross. This breeding scheme utilizes F1 generation black baldies mated to a terminal sire which allows us to maximize heterosis. We have been using an excellent maternal based Polled Hereford bull from Sandhill Farms to produce our F1 generation females. Using EPDs and Kevin's personal feel for the bull, this bull was chosen in order to produce females that would excel in valuable maternal traits such as fertility, mothering, milking, as well as have a large pelvic diameter in order to have fewer calving problems. In addition this bull has produced females that are durable, structurally sound, have good eyes, udders, and feet. Plus, these females as well as their offspring are easy to...

"We were nothing but happy with the improvement your bull did for our herd." Ronald Myers

Just sold the bull we got from you a few years back . My Dad ( Franklin Myers ) purchased him . Dad has retired and turned the cow herd over to me . We were nothing but happy with the improvement your bull did for our herd . The heifers out of him have turned into great cows . The performance on the steers was impressive !

I am looking for a bull that I could use on a few fall calvers this fall.
